Here are a few tips to consider for your aftercare following implant surgery. The longest recovery period will be when our dentist in Kearney, NE places the implants into your jawbone, and they finish fusing.
This stage of the procedure takes up to six months. To ensure successful implantation of your new teeth, here are some post-surgery recovery tips.
For a few days after having an implant embedded into your jawbone, you should only eat soft foods and drink plenty of liquids. Eating soft foods will let the surgical site have some time to recover and prevent damage to it. Eat primarily on the opposite side of the surgical site to avoid chewing on the fragile area. The implant and bone need to fuse, which can take several weeks to several months.
While your bone and implants are fusing, Dr. Eric Ahrens at Platte Valley Dental Clinic will schedule check-ups for the implant(s) to ensure they and the bone are fusing well. Our dentist can detect any problems with the implantation during these visits and adjust the treatment plan to fix any problems.
You can help the surgical site get better by eating a diet with high protein and full of fresh fruits and vegetables. Eating lean proteins and foods rich in vitamins and minerals can prevent infection and inflammation from forming and speed up your recovery.
Any surgery can be taxing on your body, so use your downtime to rest as much as you can. After our dentist near you does the initial surgery, let your body rest when you feel tired or weak. The rest allows your body to heal quickly.
After each surgery, mix salt and hot water in a cup and let the salt completely dissolve. Use this solution to gently rinse your mouth to disinfect the surgical area, and carefully spit it out in the sink. Do this every day for seven days.
If you’re getting dental implants near you, use these tips and others that Dr. Eric Ahrens at Platte Valley Dental Clinic will tell you to make getting your new smile a successful procedure.
